Evidence and Policy for Integrative Medicine (EPIM) Research Group is based in Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care, and Hong Kong Institute of Integrative Medicine, the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Biography

 

Dr. Vincent Chung is one of the first batch of Chinese Medicine practitioners trained after 1997, and is one of the few in academe contributing to the development of the government’s policy of integrating Chinese Medicine in the health system. He received the Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarship in 1999 and completed his undergraduate Chinese medicine education as an Outstanding Student of the School of Chinese Medicine, Hong Kong Baptist University in 2005. In the same year he started his PhD study in the Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. In 2008, he received a Global Scholarship Grant for training in University of Cambridge.

 

Since joining the School, Dr. Chung has been the investigator of several policy and clinical research projects on Chinese medicine funded by the Research Grant Council, the Health and Medical Research Fund, and the Hospital Authority.  He has developed expertise in research evidence synthesis on qualitative studies, mixed method studies, as well as  meta-analysis of clinical trials. On primary clinical research, he is the principal investigator of Health and Medical Research Fund supported randomized controlled trials, evaluating the effectiveness of electro-acupuncture for carpal tunnel syndrome and functional dyspepsia. He is currently a Visiting Research Fellow of the Australian Research Centre in Complementary and Integrative Medicine, University of Technology Sydney, Australia.

 

He participated in Traditional Medicine development initiatives led by the World Health Organization, including the formulations of Traditional Medicine Strategy and the application of Traditional Medicine in promoting healthy aging. He has recently awarded the Li Po Chun Charitable Trust Funding to complete a MSc in Evidence Based Healthcare in University of Oxford.  He is an associate editor of BMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine, European Journal of Integrative Medicine, and Advances in Integrative Medicine. He also serves on the International Advisory Board of Complementary Therapies in Medicine.

Biography

Dr. Xin Yin Wu completed her undergraduate training in preventive medicine in Xiangya Medical College, Central South University. She received her master degree in Epidemiology and Health Statistics from the same university. In 2011, she started her PhD study on assessing risk of bias of randomized trials in Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care, the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Dr Wu joined the Hong Kong Institute of Integrative Medicine as a postdoctoral fellow in October 2014. Dr Wu has strong experiences in clinical epidemiology and related methods, including evidence based healthcare, systematic reviews and randomized controlled trials, as well as network meta-analyses. Dr. Wu has a special research interests in Chinese medicine, of which she has recently completed a Hospital Authority funded comprehensive evidence synthesis on Chinese medicine for cancer palliative care. She has published more than 20 peer-reviewed papers in past five years.

 

Robin ST Ho 何思德

Biography

Robin received his bachelor’s degree in biomedical science majoring in physiology and genetics from the University of Adelaide, Australia. He also earned a Master of Public Health with concentration on epidemiology and biostatistics from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is now a PhD candidate in the Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care. His PhD thesis topic is “Evaluating the potential of electroacupuncture for managing functional dyspepsia: A mixed method approach.” He has developed expertise in managing pragmatic clinical trials and in assessing methodological quality of systematic reviews. Robin received the Best Poster Presentation Award in the 10th annual International Congress of Complementary Medicine Research (ICCMR) on 13/5 to 15/5 2015 in Jeju, South Korea.

Biography

Charlene received her bachelor’s degree in Public Health from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. She is working with the team on managing the eletroacupuncture for functional dyspepsia trial. Her primary research areas focus on patient's perspective on the co-utilization of Chinese and Western medication, and the development of integrative Chinese - western medicine model in cancer pallative care.
